Dave Mustaine Thinks It's Likely He'll Write Music Again With James Hetfield

Dave Mustaine says he wants to one day write new material with Metallica's James Hetfield, and he thinks there's a "good possibility" that it might actually happen.

Recently, the Megadeth mastermind — who co-founded Metallica but was infamously fired prior to their 1983 debut — admitted he was wrong for punching Hetfield over a notorious dog dispute back in the early 80s, and he's repeatedly expressed his admiration for the Metallica shredder's abilities and continues to be (mostly) diplomatic about moving beyond their stormy past.

Now, in a new interview with VWMusic, Mustaine revealed that he's been secretly hoping to one day re-connect with Hetfield in a creative setting and actually write new material together.

"I have been secretly hoping there'd be a day where James [Hetfield] and I can write together again," Mustaine said. "I think the world really does want us to do that, and I think there is a pretty good possibility of it happening down the line.

"I do think that it's possible that one day James is going to come around and that he and I are going to be able to do something together again. I guess that's one of the things that has always kept me pushing forward.

"I think it'd be good for Megadeth, and it could be great for Metallica too."

That is certainly a "won't-believe-it-til-we-see-it" situation for anyone who's been following Megadeth and Metallica's rocky relationship over the last 40 years, but if it ever did happen, then obviously Mustaine is correct — the metal world would want to hear it.
