David Hasselhoff may be best known in America for his rippling physique running down the beach as a lifeguard on Nineties television drama Baywatch, but his singing career continues to thrive in Germany and its neighboring country Austria. In a recent interview with German newspaper Zeit Outlet, the 66-year-old reveals he'll be branching out to his large metal fanbase with a couple of harder-hitting tracks to satisfy his listeners with a taste for the heavy.

"I'm doing some heavy metal songs on my new album. Why not?" Hasselhoff tells the outlet. "I do not have an album title yet, but it should read: 'Everything is allowed'. I do everything. Because I can. Because I want it."

The foray into metal won't be the hunky artist's first, though. In 2014, the Hoff appeared at Austrian music festival Nova Rock, taking the stage just after NWOBHM legends Iron Maiden. He also worked with Ministry mastermind Al Jourgensen on a mix of Neil Diamond cover "Sweet Caroline," on which Jourgensen commented to Billboard, "I didn't even have to take acid, and I felt like I was trippin' balls. David Hasselhoff has a new album coming out, some originals and some covers — and for whatever reason — and this is the part that still perplexes me since I haven't met David Hasselhoff yet — he decided I would be the perfect person to mix this."

For a taste of Hasselhoff's metal-adjacent delve into synthwave, check out 2015 video "True Survivor" below. It might be lacking in guitar solos, but is there anything more metal than David Hasselhoff belting out a song about action heroes and countdown clocks next to a sports car while buildings explode and time-traveling Viking warriors fight a retro-futuristic crime syndicate?
