Deftones guitarist Stephen Carpenter has revealed that he won't be traveling with his bandmates across the pond next month. Beginning with their Rock Am Ring performance during the first week of June, the band are set to spend a month and a half touring throughout Europe and the U.K., marking their first shows on the continent since 2018. Deftones are still planning to make the tour happen, but Carpenter has revealed in a new video statement that be won't be participating in this run — and he's also announced his fill-in.

"As much as I would love to be on the road with my brothers, playing for all of our incredible international fans, I have decided to remain playing domestically for now," he wrote in a statement accompanying the video. "With everything going on in the world, I'm just not ready to leave home and leave the country yet.

"I wish I can see each and every one of you, but for now, our good friend from Sacramento, Lance, will be fulfilling my duties. Although I'm watching from afar, I'll be there in spirit with my Deftones family."

According to the PRP, the person Carpenter refers to as "Lance" is a musician named Lance Jackman who played with the band during a couple dates back in the spring. He's not a big name, but he's known for playing in the Sacramento bands Eightfourseven and Horseneck as well as the group Will Haven.
