Does SZA's "Kill Bill" sound like AVENGED SEVENFOLD's "Bat Country"?

One of the biggest pop albums of the last couple months is SZA's SOS, and the runaway single on that record is a darkly seductive song called "Kill Bill" in which SZA ponders murdering her ex and his new girlfriend. While the song's brutal concept is way more metal than its sound, one savvy TikTok user did perceive a similarity between "Kill Bill"'s sing-songy hook and the guitar solo in Avenged Sevenfold's 2005 smash, "Bat Country."

In a short TikTok clip, user Jarred Jermaine poses the question, "Does this viral SZA song sound similar to this metal song?," and then plays the two sections in question back to back. Apparently, the kids of A7X frontman M. Shadows got wind of this video and showed it to their dad, who himself took to Twitter to comment on the commonalities between the chord progression in "Bat Country"'s epic guitar solo and SZA's high-rising vocals in "Kill Bill."

"My kids showed me a TikTok that was pointing out similarities between this song's chorus and the 'Bat Country' guitar solo," Shadows Tweeted. "Now this song has dug into my brain."

It definitely took an astute ear to pick up on a connection between such wildly different songs, but yes, the lick Synyster Gates rips in "Bat Country" definitely has a very similar melodic pattern to SZA's vocals in "Kill Bill." See if you can hear the similarities below.
