Dream Theater Announce New Album 'Distance Over Time,' North American Tour

Prog favorites reveal release date and other details for follow-up to 2016's 'The Astonishing'

Prog heads everywhere can rejoice: Dream Theater are back with a new album and new tour coming in early 2019 to scratch fans' itch for the kind of grandiose, sweeping compositions they've come to love. The two-time Grammy-award–nominated outfit is set to release its latest full-length, Distance Over Time — their first on InsideOutMusic/Sony Music — on February 22nd, before heading off on a North American headlining tour spanning from San Diego to Mexico City.

The band's lead guitarist and producer on the record John Petrucci says of Distance Over Time, "When I listen back to the album, I can distinctly recall every moment of the writing process; where I was standing in the room, what inspired us in that instant and the meaning behind each song ... I really wanted this recording to truly reflect the spirit, joy and passion that went into making the album and for people to walk away feeling some of the organic nature, personality and raw energy that the band captured while together in the studio."

The band, now in its 33rd year of existence, moved into a home in upstate New York for the summer of 2018 to work diligently day and night on the new LP.  "It was like going back to summer camp," says vocalist James LaBrie, continuing, "Being around each other the whole time made it that much more of a profound experience. I think the songs reflect the energy. It was a lot of fun to have a situation so powerful at this point in our career."
