The results are in: The rock and metal trophies have been handed out at the 64th annual Grammys. Dream Theater took home the hardware in the Best Metal Performance category, for the song "The Alien," off 2021's A View From the Top of the World. (For those who are new to this, "performance" refers to a single song rather than a full album.) The prog juggernaut had previously been nominated twice: for "On the Backs of Angels," from 2011's A Dramatic Turn of Events, and "The Enemy Inside" from 2013's self-titled LP. This was their first win.

Meanwhile in the rock categories — Album, Song and Performance — it was a clean sweep for the Foo Fighters. The three awards are bittersweet, of course, coming on the heels of drummer Justin Hawkins' recent death.
