The little band from Little Rock that could, Evanescence have one of the best-selling albums of the 21st century, 2003's Fallen, to their name. But for the group's many devoted followers, Amy Lee and Co. have come far and reached even more stratospheric heights since the life-changing commercial success of their smash debut. It's been nine long years since the band released an album of all original material, and they began offering up their latest LP, The Bitter Truth, "one piece at a time" just last week, with lead single "Wasted on You," which arrived as a beacon of hope to a world in disarray due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. With diehards clamoring for more, we asked you the fans to select Evanescence's single best song, and you came back in force. One clear, and somewhat surprising, winner rose to the top — see below.

5. "My Immortal"

This softly sung stunner from Amy Lee and Co. became an instant classic the moment it was released. A haunting piano-laced ballad that builds to a gripping climax full of symphonic power, the standout off Evanescence's 2003 debut album, Fallen, clearly still resonates to this day, a song of pain and loss with which many fans will have long had a deep personal connection.

4. "Lithium"

Lee is a powerhouse vocalist, of course, but on the dynamic "Lithium" — the second single off 2006's The Open Door — she showcases the full scope of her range. The result is an anthem that's undeniable in its beautiful cadence and stormy arrangement — and one that features some of the band's most bittersweet and sorrowful lyrics. "Lithium, don't want to lock me up inside," Lee sings. "Lithium, don't want to forget how it feels without/Lithium, I want to stay in love with my sorrow/Oh, but, God, I want to let it go."

3. "Your Star"

Inspired by the loneliness of tour life, which overwhelmed Lee one night in Lisbon as she stared at a starless sky, and replete with supercharged power-groove chugging influenced by Pantera, The Open Door's "Your Star" typifies Evanescence's light-and-shadow mix of heavenly melody and heavy-metal menace. It's a propulsive ride from its quiet opening swells to its densely orchestrated outro.

2. "Lost in Paradise"

Evanescence's 2011 self-titled album was delayed several times, but for fans, it was well worth the wait — if only for this gem. The lush, epic "Lost in Paradise" is deeply personal — Lee has said that there were tears shed during its making — wrangling with the singer's feelings of not being complete while she stepped away from the band. The raw, introspective lyrics and vocals are perfectly complemented by the diverse, dynamic instrumentation, which, altogether, bear shades of Björk's alternative classic "Jóga."

1. "Wasted on You"

"Wasted on You" marks Evanescence's first original song in three years (2017's Synthesis LP, a collection of reimagined versions of mainstay cuts, included two new numbers) and the lead single off the band's first album of all new music in nine years. Considering how long-awaited and highly anticipated it was, maybe it's no surprise that you the fans immediately catapulted it to the top of the list over tried and true classics. The song's timeliness and urgency — arriving amid the COVID-19 pandemic as it did — certainly adds to its impact, as well. "I'm already six feet low/Wasted on you," Lee emotes. "Waiting for a miracle/I can't move on/Feels like we're frozen in time/I'm wasted on you/Just pass me the bitter truth."
