Slipknot have always been the world's heaviest nu-metal band. From the tortured bangers of their 1999 debut to their new song "The Chapeltown Rag," the Iowa maniacs have been using their nine-man squad to produce overwhelming explosions of sound that can sometimes be catchy and tender, but are way more likely to be aggro and crushing.

We asked our readers to think hard and choose what they believe is the heaviest Slipknot song of them all. The responses covered their entire discography — from early-career deep cuts and Iowa standouts, to love for All Hope is Gone and We are Not Your Kind. Below, are the top five vote-getters ranked accordingly. Bang your fucking head.

5. "Solway Firth"

Slipknot didn't skimp on the heavy with 2019's We Are Not Your Kind. The band's sixth album sounded like a return to form in many ways, and "Solway Firth" is one of them — a six-minute beast of throttling riffage, destructive drumming and tons of eerie industrial noise for creepy effect. It doesn't have the ugly, tattered quality of their early material, but there's no arguing with its sheer heft.

4. "People = Shit"

Whatever your favorite Slipknot album might be, on a purely sonic level, Iowa is undoubtedly the band's heaviest. The Nine's 2001 sophomore LP has the highest density of mercilessly raging and palpably violent-sounding songs out of their whole discography, and its fuming opener, "People = Shit," sets the tone to come. Pure fucking disgust for all of humanity.

3. "Get This"

There are so many positively decimating songs to choose from Slipknot's 1999 debut, and "Get This" is definitely not the most obvious pick — which is why we love that it made this list. The two-minute shotgun blast was originally a hard-to-find bonus cut before it was loaded into the tracklist of the 10th anniversary reissue, and fans have clearly connected with its grindcore fury and old-school death-metal guitar work.

2. "Disasterpiece"

If you're going to write lyrics like "I wanna slit your throat and fuck the wound," then anything less than total sonic brutality is unfit to serve such grisly poeticism. Fortunately, Slipknot went all out on the apoplectic "Disasterpiece," which somehow manages to follow up "People = Shit" without letting the energy dip for a second. The whirring guitars and assaulting blast beats on this thing sound like they could level a corn silo.

1. "Heretic Anthem"

It's gotta be another Iowa cut, and "Heretic Anthem" really is the one. Despite its triumphant chant, "If you're 5-5-5 then I'm 6-6-6," being one of the catchiest things the 'Knot have ever done," the skin-searing drumming from Joey Jordison, throat-ripping roars from Corey Taylor and just plain ignorant breakdown from everyone make this a hard choice to contend with among Slipknot's most brutal tracks. In the words of Conan O'Brien, when the band played the song on his late-night show in 2001: "May God help us all."
