For Fans of Glassjaw: Hear Ex-Emarosa Singer's New Band the Difference Between

Debut single "Envenom" is gripping post-hardcore about struggling with alcohol

The post-hardcore stalwarts Emarosa have had a whopping five different vocalists throughout their 15-year tenure, but Chris Roberts was the first. The Lexington, Kentucky, musician played on their original demo and helped write many of the songs on their debut EP, but then departed to focus on other regional acts.

Now, after taking a few years off from performing, Roberts is returning with a new band called The Difference Between that also features members of Softspoken and A Scent Like Wolves. Today (July 1st), we're proud to be premiering their debut single, "Envenom."

The track has a melodic post-hardcore vibe that will definitely appeal to fans of Glassjaw, Saosin and Emarosa's beloved old material. Roberts is a strong vocalist who oscillates between soaring highs and vicious roars, while his bandmates sink into a tight pocket of searing guitar leads and propulsive rhythms. "'Envenom' is about struggling with an inner monologue, and using alcohol as a crutch to cope," Roberts tells us. "Everyday feels like the one before. Everything feels like a drunken haze."
