Kent, U.K.-based progressive sludge act OHHMS has been likened to Mastodon, Neurosis, Big Black and other bands of their noisy, forward-thinking ilk — and for good reason. Seven of those reasons appear on their devastating third full-length, Close — i.e. the LP's seven crushing tracks — which is due out on June 26th via Holy Roar Records. A whole week ahead of the album's official arrival, the band have teamed up with Revolver to premiere the record in its entirety. According to Waller, the new record pursues a more autobiographical approach in its themes, whereas their previous releases focused lyrically more on animal rights or the occult. "Close is the end of a chapter for us, we have stripped some of the mechanics from the way in which we usually structure our songs and pushed forward the emphasis on riffs and vocal melody," Waller explains. "Lyrically, though, is where the real change is taking place. These are songs about personal issues — about domestic abuse and about the struggle to come to terms with growing up in those conditions later on in life."
