Cavernlight are a doom-sludge band hailing from Wisconsin who brand their material with excruciatingly long album names and track titles — which is always a good sign that a band in this vein knows what the fuck they're doing. As I Cast Ruin Upon the Lens That Reveals My Every Flaw, the band's second LP and first for Translation Loss Records, was recorded at Steve Albini's renowned Chicago studio Electrical Audio, and therefore sounds utterly enormous.

Pulling from the tireless dirge of mid-Nineties Neurosis, the blackened gloom of Amenra, and merciless stomp of a modern peer like Primitive Man, Cavernlight's songs are as atmospherically dismal and stormy as they are violently crushing. We're premiering the full album today (May 10th) ahead of its release this coming Friday, so you can listen to it all below via Bandcamp.

"As I Cast…was something that was building up inside of us while we were finishing [2017's] As We Cup…," says guitarist Scott Burns. "It was a dark foreboding place. It was born out of anger and hatred. That hatred for one's self and the environments that we put ourselves in. To blame others for our misfortune was just another fault we would later learn about ourselves.

"We tried to incorporate other elements in the music that poured out of us. But love and happiness we're not part of that formula. Rather, those things were replaced by sorrow and dread. This album took a lot from us as people, friends, partner's and it took from the we hurt the most. The ones we were supposed to love. This album is a record of that time in our lives. Times we would probably rather forget."

As I Cast Ruin Upon The Lens That Reveals My Every Flaw is due out May 13th via Translation Loss and is available for pre-order here.
