For Fans of Neurosis, Early Mastodon: Hear Adrift's Explosive New Song "Embers"

Spanish wailers Adrift have been at it for two decades now, but their return to the fold sounds anything but stale judging by their latest cut: the expansive yet pointed and acerbic "Embers" from coming LP Pure

Kicking off with a few pleasant, innocuous strums before launching into acid-drenched vocals and biting guitar licks, the track spans more than eight ear-shattering minutes without losing an ounce of steam. The song was the one that "took us the longest to complete," comments the band. "We started writing it before the break we took in 2016 — our bassist Daniel moved to Austin, Texas, for more than a year due to job commitments — and when we resumed working on it, we changed a bunch of sections."

The carefully constructed, serpentine structure of the track is adventurous and hypnotic, never letting one part overpower the rest but working in discordant harmony to build an enrapturing experience. Adrift claim "Embers" is "different than the majority of songs in our catalog," but helped them learn and grow as songwriters. "We used a technique which is quite frequent in [our] music: transforming a riff throughout its repetitions, and twisting it as the track moves forward."

Listen to the track in full above, and check out Pure when it drops via Temple Of Torturous Records Friday, May 31st. Pre-orders are available here and here.
