Guy Marchais, best known as the former guitarist for Suffocation, has been diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, a rare form of blood cancer affecting the body's immune system. His illness is considered one of the most curable types of cancer, but will require him to undergo extensive testing, as well as expensive procedures like chemotherapy (and potentially, radiation treatment). Marchais' family have since launched a GoFundMe drive to help offset the $100,000 price tag for his upcoming treatment plan, which is not entirely covered by health insurance.

"Even with health insurance, bills are piling up in the thousands," the guitarist's family writes. "There are many more tests to be done before starting his treatment plan on February 5th, which includes chemo and possibly radiation. Our family is struggling and could really use your help." They also note that the fateful news broke just 80 days after Marchais' niece received an identical diagnosis: "Although [the illness is] not genetic, lightning struck twice in our family."

Several of Marchais' former peers have given to the recovery fund so far — including Suffocation's lead axeman, Terrance Hobbs. "I know you're a long way from your goal, but it wouldn't be right if I didn't help, love ya Guy, and i wish you the best and a speedy recovery ..." he wrote. Drummer Richard Christy (Iced Earth/Death) chipped in as well, commenting: "Guy, so sorry to hear about this and hope you get better very soon!"

The Marchais family have raised $6,000 so far, but they've still a long way to go. Head here to pitch in.
