Ghost's Tobias Forge Says He May Not Always Front Band, Open to Hiring New Singer

"I just wanted to be the guitar player," reveals Swedish occult-rock musician in new unmasked video interview

In a recent sit-down with Ghost architect Tobias Forge for 101WKQX segment "The Lounge," the singer claims he originally planned to play guitar and provide backing vocals for his massively successful band, and the option for that to be in Ghost's future has not disappeared.

"I wanted to write everything and I wanted do back-up vocals. I just wanted to be the guitar player. That's always been in my head — I am a guitar player," Forge told the interviewer. "Now, obviously, I'm conditioned into being the singer guy, but if I had my way and definitely in an alternative future, if whatever happens, I could definitely picture myself sort of getting someone else to sing and just play guitar."

With his main job in the band being the focal point of the act, songwriter and lyricist, Forge has little time left to hone his shredding skills.

"I love playing those [Ghost] songs myself. Obviously, I don't do it very often, and if I'm just given a guitar, I have to refresh my memory and, of course, the more time I spend jumping around doing other things, the less I play guitar," he confesses. Once he's off tour, though, he gets back to it and tries to expand his skill set on the instrument: "Then as soon as I go in the studio again, I have to really, really, really get my chops up again."

Next up for Forge and his band is an extensive fall tour that kicks off September 13th in Bakersfield, California. See here for a full list of dates and ticket links.
