Following the harrowing saga of his apparent breakdown and subsequent arrest in Florida this past December, Cannibal Corpse guitarist Pat O'Brien will take a temporary leave from the band to deal with his personal issues during the death-metal outfit's upcoming appearances on the upcoming Decibel Tour and as support for Slayer on the fifth leg of the thrash titans' farewell tour. Filling in for O'Brien will be respected guitarist and producer Erik Rutan, known for his one-time role in genre frontrunners Morbid Angel as well as his current work in Hate Eternal.

Cannibal Corpse confirmed this news on Twitter today, January 18th, telling fans, "Cannibal Corpse have announced that Erik Rutan will fill in for guitarist Pat O'Brien as O'Brien tends to personal issues. Rutan will appear live with the band for the Decibel Magazine Tour and the upcoming US leg of Slayer's final tour alongside Lamb of god and Amon Amarth."

Rutan has worked with the group before, producing four of their albums: Kill, Evisceration Plague, Torture and Red Before Black. His extensive and varied production resume also includes Six Feet Under, Belphegor, Soilent Green, Goatwhore, Agnostic Front, Tombs and the Mountain Goats.

The Decibel Tour, headlined by Cannibal Corpse and Morbid Angel with Immolation, Blood Incantation and Necrot supporting, kicks off February 17th in San Antonio, Texas (find a full list of dates here). The month-long trek will end on March 14th in Tampa, Florida, before a two-month break for the band before they join Slayer along with Lamb of God and Amon Amarth on May 2nd in Phoenix, Arizona, for a series of dates extending into May.
