Britsh metalcore act Architects hit Abbey Road Studios in Westminster last month to throw down two contributions to the Spotify Singles Session series, and the results included a faithful but symphonic cover of Deftones' 2000 classic "Change (In the House of Flies)." Maintaining the tortured, passionate sadness of the original while throwing in the swell of a full string section, Architects were able to pay homage to a legendary band and their defining track while gilding it with their own melodic touch. In keeping with the feel of the series, there is also a live element that makes the performance sound more intimate and immediate.
The band's other contribution to the series, which aims to nod at the golden days of physical singles and EPs, is an extended version of their song "Death Is Not Defeat." Vibrant arrangements on the original studio version are fully intact here, but the extra time gives the song room to breathe and expand into something richer, more touching.
Hear both tracks below, and catch the band on their current extensive European and U.S. tour. A full list of dates is available on their official site here.
