Hear Avatar Get Heavy as Hell on New Song "Silence in the Age of Apes"

Swedish theatrical metal unit kick off dark "new era"

Last week, Swedish alt-metal juggernaut Avatar announced their highly anticipated eighth full-length, Hunter Gatherer, with a movie-trailer-style video teaser that foreshadowed a dark new era for the band. "A new door opens. A new era begins. Step into the darkness, and see," reads the YouTube description for the teaser, which was directed by Johan Carlén. Turns out, the theatrical troupe weren't kidding.

Today (May 14th), Avatar offered up Hunter Gatherer's crushingly heavy lead single "Silence in the Age of Apes" along with its kinetic and stylish music video, which reveals the band's revamped new look. Watch and listen above. The quintet also unveiled the track listing for the album and launched pre-orders for the LP's many collectible variants — including a Revolver-exclusive "Hot Pink Splatter Vinyl" edition strictly limited to 250 copies. Get yours before they're gone!

Hunter Gatherer is due August 7th via eOne Music — see the cover art and track listing below. For more on the album and Avatar's latest iteration, check out our exclusive interview with frontman Johannes Eckerström, who reveals why both the song and its video were made twice.
