It's a been a big year for Avatar. In 2021, the theatrical Swedish troupe returned to the stage (before COVID got in the way, postponing dates), released four Fall singles and launched their own label imprint, Black Waltz Records. Today, New Year's Eve, vocalist Johannes Eckerström and his cohorts bid farewell to a strange, momentous year and heralded 2022 with a wild new song, "Cruel and Unusual," which lives up to it's title. "It feels self-evident," the band commented in a joint statement. "Violent thoughts channeled through violent riffs, demented thoughts driven by a sick groove. It's simply a very sexy song."
