Between the Buried and Me are set to return this spring with their eighth album, Automata I. Arriving March 9th via new label home Sumerian, the six-track effort marks the first of two concept LPs the prog-metal outfit plan to drop in 2018; its aptly-titled sequel, Automata II, hits shelves this summer. Our first taste of Automata I takes the form of a psychedelic video for album opener "Condemned to the Gallows," which finds the North Carolinians performing the cut through a miasma of overblown colors intercut with flashing images suggesting automation and technology.
So what's this epic two-parter all about? Between the Buried and Me are keeping mum on specifics for the moment, so we'll just have to wait and see.
"All of our music should build up to the newest record," frontman Tommy Giles Rogers, Jr. offered. "That's what happens with Automata. You can take little snippets from our past throughout this album. It sounds like Between The Buried and Me, but it's still new. We hope to keep the music industry on its toes — this is part of doing that."
