Canadian grindcore legion WAKE are set to unleash their new album, Misery Rites, later this month via Translation Loss. After dropping off the powerviolence-y title track and its similarly gnarly sibling "Embers," the group are back with "Paradigm Lost," another misery-laden scorcher to tide us over until the record's February 23rd release date.
Recorded with Dave Otero (Cattle Decapitation, Khemmis, Scour), Misery Rites finds WAKE forgoing their well-established political screeds for a cathartic, deeply personal approach that lays frontman Ball's troubled heart bare for all to hear. "The human side of despair and misery is one lesser examined in heavy music, and one that's more relatable to many," he tells Revolver. "The album reflects a cycle of destroying the aspects of ones' self that they are held down by and then slowly falling back into the same negative cycle whether it's depression, addiction, anger or anything."
