Hear Blackened-Thrash Crew Aura Noir Channel Sepultura on Thundering New Song

"Shades Ablaze" appears on Norwegian extreme-metal stalwarts' first LP in six years 'Aura Noire'

Originally conceived in 1993 as the side project of Carl-Michael "Aggressor" Eide, a black-metal multi-instrumentalist known for his work with Ulver, Satyricon and others, the Norwegian power trio Aura Noir has spent the past 25 years bridging the black metal of its backyard with all-American, old-school thrash. Over six years after their last full-length, the band — rounded out by scene vets Ole Jørgen "Apollyon" Moe and Rune "Blasphemer" Eriksen — are gearing up to release their new album, Aura Noire, later this month via Indie Recordings.

After unleashing the record's riotous opener, "Dark Lung of the Storm," last month, the stalwarts have linked up with Revolver to share another cut off the LP: Behold, the fury-laden, Septultura-flavored "Shades Ablaze." A manic ripper with Godzilla-like heft, "Shades Ablaze" finds Apollyon relieving Aggressor of his usual screaming duties, proving his power with a searing turn behind the mic; later, the drummer pivots to a South American-inspired percussive break, which Aggressor describes as "a homage to old Sarcophago and ancient Sepultura."

Aura Noire hits shelves April 27th via Indie Recordings. Pre-order the nine-track offering here, and read on for the album artwork and track listing, as well as Aura Noir's upcoming tour dates.
