Japanese heavy-rock crew share far-out first taste of new full-length 'W'

Revolver has teamed with Boris on an exclusive vinyl variant of their new album W on "sea blue with black blob" wax. Only 300 copies were made — get yours now!

Long-running Japanese heavy-rock crew Boris have just announced their new full-length, W, will arrive on January 21st via new label Sacred Bones Records. The news arrived with the premiere of the album's haunting debut single "Drowning By Numbers."

The new record is the follow-up and conceptual companion piece to 2020's aggressive, punky No LP. (The band's press release points out No and W "weave together to form NOW, a duo of releases that respond to one another.")

The dark, propulsive "Drowning By Numbers" — which is led by singer/guitarist Wata's ethereal vocals — finds Boris tapping their experimental side, a vibe that is reflected in the avant-garde dance performance seen in the accompanying music video. Watch and listen above.

Pre-orders for W are available now — including the limited-edition Revolver-exclusive vinyl variant on "sea blue with black blob" wax.

Drowning by Numbers

One, two, three, four, five...

Same repetition
Always the same
Looks as if it was making sense
Perfect combinations

Counting, drowning

One, two, three, four, five...

Lucky, unlucky
I'm possessed and obsessed with the fate
Dressed by their implications
Willingly I'm chained with the figures

Counting, drowning
Counting, drowning, coming
Counting, drowning
Counting, drowning, coming

Six, seen, eight, nine, ten…

Same repetition
Always the same
