Hear Brass Against's Stunning Big-Band Cover of Tool's "Parabol/Parabola"

'Lateralus' standout gets funky, horn-heavy reinvention

Subverting their usual raucous-from-the-jump approach to reinventing famous hard-rock and metal songs, activist musical cooperative Brass Against has now taken on Tool classic "Parabol/Parabola" and infused the intro section's spaciously relaxed tone with their funky, horn-heavy touch before bursting full-on into the main song's explosive energy. Singer Samuel Hope steps into Maynard James Keenan's enormous shoes on vocal duties, pulling off the frontman's signature smooth delivery with ease and grace.

Clocking in at just over nine minutes, the cover is one of the longest among the ensemble's repertoire. Tool are one of Brass Against's most frequently covered artists — they've previously offered up takes on the prog stalwarts' "Lateralus" and "The Pot," raking in millions of views alongside renditions of songs by Rage Against the Machine and Audioslave.  As always, "Parabol/Parabola" was the project of guitarist and Brass Against bandleader Brad Hammonds and arranged by baritone saxophonist and composer Andrew Gutauskas.
