It's here. It happened. Bring Me the Horizon have recorded a song with Ed Sheeran, one of the biggest singer-songwriters of the 21st century. At last week's BRIT Awards show, the chart-topping pop star and the U.K. metalcore troupe performed a surprise collaborative version of Sheeran's massive 2021 single "Bad Habits," and now they've unveiled the proper studio recording.
The track sounds a lot like the version they played live at the mainstream awards show. Sheeran and BMTH frontman Oli Sykes trade vocals during the chorus while Sykes' bandmates provide chunky guitars and heavy drums that are totally absent in the original version of the squeaky-clean pop track. The whole thing culminates with a crushing breakdown that sounds straight out of BMTH's 2013 pop-metal masterwork, Sempiternal, and yes, Sykes unleashes a furious death growl. Sykes commented: "From receiving the email asking whether we'd like to open the BRITs with Ed Sheeran to us chatting and bouncing ideas to rehearsing and then performing and now releasing, this has needless to say been pretty mental. But we are all about pushing the boundaries of our own and other genres, so this felt like the perfect challenge."
