Hear Bullet for My Valentine "Go for the Throat" on New Song "Knives"

Heavy first taste of U.K. band's upcoming self-titled album

Bullet for My Valentine are screaming, aiming and firing for a return-to-form moment. The U.K. metal quartet are releasing their self-titled seventh record later this fall, and judging by the lead single, they're going back to the heaviness of their earlier years.

As its moniker implies, "Knives" is a razor-edged ripper that resides in a completely different lane than the nu-metal sound of their 2018 album, Gravity. The band led by vocalist-guitarist Matt Tuck have gone through numerous sonic iterations since forming in the mid-2000s — metalcore, thrash, classic British heavy metal and more — and this song feels like a conscious throwback to the style that made them popular in the first place.

"I wanted to come out guns blazing, fucking middle fingers flying, and just go for the throat," Tuck said of the album's sound. "I think this is a far more aggressive, intense part of Bullet for My Valentine. It's always been there. I've just never opened the floodgates on it. I want to take people's heads off in a metaphorical way."

"I think it's the most ferocious side of Bullet for My Valentine that I've ever known," added lead guitarist Michael "Padge" Paget. "It's time for us to put out a really angry, heavy, aggressive record. I just can't wait to grimace on stage!"

"Knives" is definitely a grimacer, and you can hear it above via YouTube.
