Chef Matty Matheson loves food and he loves music, particularly shit that hits hard and with attitude. He grew up playing in hardcore bands and even released his first cook book, the aptly titled Matty Matheson: A Cookbook, on vinyl via rock and metal stronghold Roadrunner Records. It comes with a 40-page zine featuring songs from the label's catalog to pair with the meals: French Onion Soup with Type O Negative's "Love You to Death," Choucroute Garnie with Sepultura's "Refuse/Resist" and Pot Roast with Turnstile's "Generator," to name just a few.

With all that in mind, we hit up the larger-than-life foodie for his current go-to heavy-music playlist, and he was happy to deliver. "This playlist makes me feel like there's hope in a world that's burning to death," he tells us. Fittingly, it features total bangers like Power Trip's official live recording of "Crossbreaker" ("This one is for Riley. I ❤️ you forever," comments Matheson), Ekulu's "Melt the Ice (Live in London)" ("Keeping it with family. We do a lot of design work together — Chris is the homie. This band feels like Cro-Mags Near Death Experience meets Rollins band.") and Kommand's "Gulag Orphanage" ("The world needs more death metal and my buddy Sammy plays drums that makes me want to punch my face inside out."). Blast it loud.
