Hear Chelsea Wolfe's Eerie New Cover of "Oui Oui Marie" for Slasher Movie 'X'

Arthur Field's 1918 tune gets flipped into woozy ballad

In our 2021 cover story on Converge's Bloodmoon incarnation featuring Chelsea Wolfe, Stephen Brodsky and Ben Chisholm, Wolfe revealed that she'd been working on a horror movie score over the pandemic and "a lot of that [has been] making some very demonic sounds," she noted. As it turns out, the fright flick in question is the upcoming A24 slasher film X directed by Ti West (The Sacrament) and starring Kid Cudi, Mia Goth, Jenny Ortega and Brittany Snow.

The movie arrives nationwide March 18th, while its score, which was composed by Wolfe and Tyler Bates, is due out on the 25th. Ahead of that date, Wolfe has offered up a taste in the form of a haunting, smoky goth-folk cover of Arthur Field's 1918 "Oui Oui Marie." It isn't necessarily "demonic," but it might raise the hairs on the back of your neck. Listen above via YouTube.

As described in the movie's official synopsis, X is set in 1979 and follows "a group of young filmmakers [who] set out to make an adult film in rural Texas, but when their reclusive, elderly hosts catch them in the act, the cast find themselves fighting for their lives."
