Hear Chester Bennington Rage on Lamb of God Guitarist Mark Morton's New Song "Cross Off"

Late Linkin Park singer "surprised" and "humbled" Morton during collaboration

Lamb of God guitarist Mark Morton's forthcoming solo album, Anesthetic, is a star-studded affair, featuring guest turns by big-name vocalists including his own band's Randy Blythe and Arch Enemy's Alissa White-Gluz, on lead single "The Truth Is Dead," as well as gravelly-voiced Seattle icon Mark Lanegan, Testament's Chuck Billy and more. Musically, Morton performs all guitars, with Roy Mayorga (Stone Sour), David Ellefson (Megadeth), Ray Luzier (Korn), Paulo Gregoletto and Alex Bent (Trivium), Mike Inez (Alice in Chains), Jean-Paul Gaster (Clutch) and Steve Gorman and Marc Ford (Black Crowes) contributing instrumentation.

The highest profile cameo and the most buzzed-about song on the LP, however, has to be the appearance of late Linkin Park vocalist Chester Bennington on album opener "Cross Off." The collaboration has been anticipated by fans of both musicians ever since Morton first teased it in April 2017, tweeting a picture of himself with Bennington and noted the recording sounded "killer" after the singer released some lyrics via a now-deleted Instagram post. Today (January 8th), Morton finally offered up the song, a raging thrash-up that sees Bennington unleashing excoriating screams and heartfelt singing like only he could. Stream "Cross Off" above.

"I was really impressed for a guy at his level, at the place in the career he was at, someone of his stature and celebrity, to have that level of humility and commitment to come in there and treat this like it would be a Linkin Park song, or his own song or whatever," Morton recently told Metal Hammer of the collaboration with Bennington. "After the track was laid out, then we took a breath and started talking about more personal stuff – real-life shit. And yeah … he surprised me the most." Anesthetic is due March 1st — you can pre-order it here.
