Hear Code Orange's Hallucinatory Collaboration With Injury Reserve, JPEGMAFIA

Arizona hip-hop trio team with Pittsburgh wrecking crew for hazy single "HPNGC"

"Injury Reserve, to me, represents creativity in hip-hop in the same way I aspire to in heavy music," Code Orange ringleader Jami Morgan told Revolver in June. "They have managed to walk the tight rope of maintaining the soul of what hip-hop is with poignant lyrical content, while remaining on the forefront of pushing the boundaries with insane vocal delivery and cutting-edge production."

Now just a few short months later, Morgan's band and the Arizona alternative hip-hop crew have teamed up — and recruited Deftones-endorsed rapper and producer JPEGMAFIA — to create "HPNGC." The hypnotic, experimental track combines traditional elements of hip-hop with an nuanced, grainy exploration of slow-motion beats and unexpected samples for a deeply interesting four-minute adventure through each collaborator's contributions.

While defiantly denying the "punk-rap" label sometimes applied to artists who step outside the bounds of traditional hip-hop, Injury Reserve — with help from their partners in crime — manage to convey a wholly unique sound on this new standalone track (affectionately referred to as "a loosie with more to follow" in the press release). You can catch the trio when they hit the road for a North American tour kicking off September 16th in Austin, Texas — find a full list of dates below. As for Code Orange, they are reportedly hard to work on the follow-up to 2017's acclaimed Forever LP.
