Hear Cold Cave Evoke Sisters of Mercy on New Club Banger "Promised Land"

Earworm piano hooks and driving backbeat make for instant goth classic

Cold Cave don't follow any traditional rules when it comes to releasing new music, but instead continue to grow their extensive catalog in surprising micro doses as with April 2018's stunning EP You & Me & Infinity. Today they've continued the tradition of dropping snippets of fresh material on hungry fans by blessing us with an instant club classic via their latest single "Promised Land," which comes paired with an enigmatic video, directed by Revolver family members Travis Shinn and Jeremy Danger.

Taking the vibe of darkwave and incorporating the more dance-driven side of underground post-punk, the track opens with a lonely but infectious piano riff joined ceremoniously by synth choral lines that call up genre standards like the Sisters of Mercy's immaculate classic "This Corrosion." Once the driving beat kicks in at the 30 second mark, though, it's a nonstop bop till the very last chord. Irresistibly catchy while maintaining a chilly hollow-point edge, "Promised Land" marks another entry by Cold Cave into the shadowy halls of goth greatness.

This single comes just ahead of the group's North American tour featuring the duo's mainstays, Wes Eisold and Amy Lee, who will be joined by a full band including Nils Blue, Ryan McMahon and Anthony Anzaldo (of Ceremony) with support from the Chino Moreno–endorsed duo Vowws and Detroit electroclash punks Adult. The trek kicks off tonight, February 15th (Eisold's birthday!), with a sold-out show at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery; find a complete list of dates below.
