Corey Taylor was a guest on the latest episode of BBC Radio 1's Rock Show with Daniel P Carter. The Slipknot/Stone Sour frontman took part in the program's "Music Ruined My Life" segment, which tackles artists' musical upbringing. Topics discussed include Taylor's childhood favorites (he singled out Journey as his introduction to rock), the first album that changed his life (the grunge-filled Singles soundtrack apparently moved him to tears) and stumbling upon his first concert at a local fair ("When I was 12 years old, I saw Steppenwolf, and that was my first gig — it wasn't very ostentatious").

There's also a hilarious moment where he recalls entering in a karaoke competition as a young musician, with the intention of buying a decent microphone with his winnings, only to suffer a crushing defeat. "I entered a karaoke contest specifically to buy a microphone," he remembered. "I got beat by a four-year-old kid!" Taylor admitted that, despite winning over the older folks in the crowd with a powerful rendition of Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll," his chances of victory were slim. "The kid won — because it's a kid," he said. "It's just going to happen." Listen to audio of the complete interview below.

Stone Sour released their latest album Hydrograd back in June. The band is currently on tour in Europe; find a full list of dates here.
