It's been eight long, smoke-filled years since Cypress Hill released their last album, 2010's Rise Up, a drought that the West Coast rap veterans are set to break this fall with Elephants on Acid, their ninth studio full-length, produced by the group's DJ Muggs. Ahead of the record, due September 28th, Muggs, B-Real, Sen Dog and Eric Bobo have dropped the serpentine new single "Band of Gypsies," available now via your favorite streaming service, as well as its music video, which sees the boys partying down in the Mideast. Much of the album originated from that region of the world, after Muggs had an reported out-of-body experience as a man with an elephant head and traveled there, recording in Egypt and Jordan between visits to the Dead Sea and King Solomon's Tomb, among other sites.
Cypress Hill have a slew of tour dates lined up in support of the new LP, including Haunted Hill Halloween shows at L.A.'s El Rey Theatre and The Roxy, on October 25th and 26th, respectively, and then in NYC at Gramercy Theatre on Halloween proper and Brooklyn's Warsaw on November 2nd. Before that, on September 14th, Cypress Hill will be in Chicago for Riot Fest, where they're scheduled to perform their 1993 breakout album Black Sunday in its entirety. See full dates here.
The group's members haven't spent the last eight years just smoking weed. Both B-Real and Sen Dog have both also been indulging their love of heavy rock music via high-powered supergroups — B-Real, in Prophets of Rage with Chuck D and Rage Against the Machine's instrumental trio, and Sen Dog, in Powerflo with current and former members of Biohazard and Fear Factory.
