Since coming together in 2015, Canadian darkwave duo Strvngers have made a name for themselves with their dark, seedy take on electronic music, not to mention some standout covers of Korn's "A.D.I.D.A.S.," Nine Inch Nails' "Closer" and other songs. Today, August 14th, Maria Joaquin and KC have teamed with Revolver to introduce their latest chapter as embodied in their third album, Death Is the Only Way Out, due November 8th on Negative Gain, and its lead single and title track, premiering above along with its slow-burning music video.
"'Death Is the Only Way Out' is sort of a eulogy for what we were," the group says in a joint statement. "The story seems to be coming to an end and with that is a more obscure and ominous chapter that deals with the darkness that dwells in all of us. That voice in our heads that tells us that we are not good enough. That we will never amount to anything or anyone.
"With the visuals, we wanted to create a video that complimented the song but doesn't try to interpret or take attention away from it. I've always liked the idea of negative space in art, how you can use the blank space around an object to give it a stronger impact. That's what we are doing here. The video and song has its own deep personal meaning to us but we wanted to give the listener enough context to project their own interpretation of the song. Our mortality is something we all have to face so we decided on a memorial grave because it's a familiar symbol of Death. We have all seen them. Death will come for everyone of us."
Maria Joaquin adds,"If you're frightened of dying and you're holding on, you'll see devils tearing your life away ..."
