Hear Dave Lombardo's New, Very Un-Slayer "Romantic Love Song" With His Wife

Metal drummer busts out jingle bells on slow, sensual holiday tune "The Gift"

Dave Lombardo is no longer spending his holiday season in the abyss. The former Slayer drummer — currently sitting behind the kit in Dead Cross, Testament, Mr. Bungle, Suicidal Tendencies and the Misfits — has shared a new song he co-wrote and performed with his wife, Paula, titled "The Gift." It's a slow, sensual, traditional ballad that Lombardo describes as "a romantic love song for the holiday season, written by my wife and I."

Unlike basically every other song Lombardo has ever been a part of, there're no riffs, blast beats, screaming or guitar solos on "The Gift." The minimalist instrumentation features a few delicate piano notes, light percussive taps and gentle jingle bell shakes, and Paula handles all of the vocal duties, delivering lines like, "You're the gift that keeps on giving/My heart is always melting like snow," with a soulful croon.

If you're looking for a song that's less "Angel of Death" and more, well, angelic, then give "The Gift" a stream above via YouTube.
