Canadian country star Brett Kissel just released We Were That Song, his seventh full-length album. For the most part, the album abides by the expected CMT-friendly formula: tailgate-ready odes to back roads, babes and booze that bear a much stronger resemblance to pop and hip-hop than the heartland-based fare of decades past. Its tenth track "Damn!", however, is somewhat of a curveball: a rowdy party anthem featuring a killer solo from Megadeth's Dave Mustaine. That we don't hear the frontman deliver lines like "Rhinestone, tank tops, cutoff cowgirl boots/20 dollars in the jar just to start the groove" by way of the signature Mustaine hiss is somewhat of a shame, but hey – it's one hell of a crossover nonetheless.
"Damn!" marks Mustaine's second noteworthy collaboration as of late; he recently linked up with ex-Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison's band Vimic for "Fail Me (My Temple)", a collaborative ripper set to appear on the band's upcoming album. Megadeth's last full-length, Dystopia, came out last year.
