Before everyone from Foo Fighters to EPMD used the term, crossover meant bridging the great divide between metal and punk. On either side of the aisle you had bands testing the waters — guys like Anthrax and Exodus led the charge on the metal side, with Cro-Mags, Leeway and more on the hardcore side. Then you had bands like DRI that stayed staunchly in the middle. Washington, D.C.'s Red Death, much like Power Trip, practice the crossover approach as we meant it in 1987, playing ripping thrash with mosh pit–ready breakdowns. Their latest is Formidable Darkness, and it is streaming below in full courtesy of Triple B Records. Look for it on Dec 8, 2018, but preorder yours via the label.
At the core of Red Death is Connor Donegan, drummer extraordinaire and also member of Genocide Pact, Protestor, Innumerable Forms, formerly Pure Disgust, and fill-in for Power Trip in previous incarnations. Much like similar musicians Chris Ulsh (Mammoth Grinder, Power Trip, Impalers, etc), Jensen Ward (Iron Lung, Cold Sweat, Walls) and others (Justin deTore etc), Donegan's strength as a musician shines through to all of his projects, and this is no exception.
