Hear Death-Metal Stalwarts Drawn and Quartered's First New Album in 6 Years

'The One Who Lurks' LP is "a testimony to mankind's lust for killing, and horrific death by virulent disease"

2018 marks more than 25 years for death-metal faction Drawn and Quartered, who first rose out of the local Seattle scene in 1992. Since then, the band has remained steadfast in their approach, dropping album after album of unadulterated death, bucking trends yet pushing further into technicality while avoiding wankery. Brutality, not depth of knowledge in weird scales, is paramount — as is apparent from the group's forthcoming new LP.

The One Who Lurks is, first and foremost, terrifying. The album opener "Nefarious Rites" sets a perfectly horrific tone, yet never skates into parody or cacophony. The track, like much of the album, reinstates that, while terror and technical ability are key to a great death-metal release, so is subtle melody and toeing the line between melody and lack thereof. Score another point for USDM in 2018, and another notch on the D&Q belt for The One Who Lurks, streaming in full below and due for release on July 27th. You can order yours here.

"The One Who Lurks is a testimony to mankind's lust for killing, and horrific death by virulent disease, many based on history and real stories," the band offers on the album. "Inspiration comes also from obscure soundtracks of antique horror movies and Lovecraft. Drawn and Quartered is and will always remain a doomy, dark brutal entity."
