Hear Deftones' Chino Moreno Cover Bananarama's "Cruel Summer"

Hear moody, industrial-tinged collaboration with Aaron Harris and Kris Dirksen

UPDATE: Aaron Harris — who plays with Chino Moreno in the band Palms and previously drummed for post-metal stalwarts Isis — reached out to us via Twitter to shed some light on Moreno's "Cruel Summer" cover, which recently surfaced online. According to Harris, the Bananarama cover was recorded by himself, Moreno and composer Kirk Dirkson for Methodic Doubt, a self-described "collective of composers, producers, remixers and headbangers who create original music for film, television, video games and advertising." Hear it in the playlist below.

ORIGINAL POST, 5/25/18: Back in 2015, Bay Area metal band Death Valley High tapped Deftones frontman Chino Moreno to lend vocals to a cover version of Bananarama's Eighties classic "Cruel Summer." Originally intended for Death Valley High's covers EP Duel, the industrial-flavored reinterpretation fell by the wayside after the release was delayed and eventually shelved.

Three years later — and just in time for Memorial Day! — full audio of Moreno's moody "Cruel Summer" take has surfaced online via a playlist from the management agancy Methodic Artists (whose client list just so happens to include Moreno), the PRP reports. Listen via the embedded playlist, but take note: You'll need to scroll down a bit to find it.
