Atlanta band tackles "concept of sacrificing individual autonomy" on sludgy cut

Degradations make "metallic hardcore for the end of the world," according to their Bandcamp, and the quintet's epic and gnarly sound lives up to that billing. Part of the sludgy Atlanta scene best known for heavy hitters such as Mastodon and Black Tusk, Degradations should appeal to any fan of the aforementioned bands as well as Gojira, High on Fire and other like-minded acts.

The group's latest offering is "The Silver Hand," a clawhammer-fisted taste of upcoming album, Masque, due out this fall. Today (May 5th), Revolver is stoked to premiere the single along with its twisted, cinematic music video, directed by Brendan McGowan (Ghost, Gojira, Windhand). Watch and listen above.

"'The Silver Hand' explores the concept of sacrificing individual autonomy in pursuit of a sense of direction," guitarist Bryan Strickland tells us of the song. "By following new patterns, we sometimes allow ourselves to be confronted by an inner righteous fury that seeks atonement. It became pretty clear early on the direction we collectively wanted this song, the new album, and essentially the band to become. The first line of the song is 'hushed tones reworked into sirens screaming love songs across the sky,' and that eventually became the one of the driving influences for how we concepted the album."
