Hip-hop iconoclast Denzel Curry is a rising star who wears his roots proudly. Those roots include a deep love of metal, hardcore and punk — from Pantera and Mastodon to Black Flag and Turnstile. He's channeled that passion into an electrifying live cover of Rage Against the Machine's "Bulls on Parade" that quickly went viral and, now, into a fist-clenched rendition of Bad Brains' "I Against I," assisted by the pioneering punk band's own bassist Darryl Jenifer, as well as a collaboration with hardcore experimentalists Fucked Up, who teamed with Curry to reinvent the rapper's song "Clout Cobain." Both were recorded in New York City as part of the Spotify Singles series. Blast both below, plus hear Curry's conversation with Jenifer about the influence of hardcore on both their music and how the Bad Brains cover came about.
