Over the past year, prolific progressive metal artist Devin Townsend has been teasing the upcoming release of his new album, Lightwork, as well as a planned companion album, Nightwork. Today, we have the first taste of new music from Lightwork, titled "Moonpeople." The single finds Townsend exploring ambient art-rock spaces with soaring melodies and big choruses, eventually building up to something heavier and towering.
Lightwork is due out October 28th, and Townsend said in a press release that "if you're already familiar with what I do, Lightwork will probably then come as no surprise."
"In essence, Lightwork is a bit more of a 'song'-oriented album. A bit more direct and simpler than a lot of what I've been doing lately," he continued. "After Empath and The Puzzle, things kind of swung back in the direction of more traditional arrangements for Lightwork. Lyrically, it kind of hints at the struggles of the last few years but with an eye on putting the pieces back together again."
