Late last year, Disturbed singer David Draiman revealed that his nu-metal band had new material on the horizon that channeled the heaviness of their beloved 2000 debut, The Sickness (the album that spawned "Down With the Sickness"). "It's sounding somewhere between The Sickness and Ten Thousand Fists, for sure," Draiman said of the songs that are slated to appear on a yet-to-be-announced six-track EP.
Today, we get to hear if Draiman's description held up. The band have released an explosive new song called "Hey You," their first piece of fresh, original material in the four years since they dropped 2018's Evolution (in 2020, they did release a cover of Sting's "If I Ever Lose My Faith In You").
While the chorus certainly has the major-key hookiness that Disturbed honed throughout the 2010s, "Hey You"'s elastic riff is steely as hell, and the groove has that classic Disturbed bounce.
"It's a wakeup call," Draiman said of the song's subject matter. "We've become our own worst enemies. Civil discourse has become the exception instead of the norm. People have lost themselves in outrage addiction."
