Later this fall, Portland, Oregon metalcore crew Dying Wish will finally release their long-awaited debut full-length, Fragments of a Bitter Memory. The quintet led by the ferocious Emma Boster already dropped the record's gnarly title-track, and now they're back with a second helping called "Until Mourning Comes."

Although Dying Wish came up in and are still very much apart of the modern hardcore scene, the group aren't shy about how much they love turn-of-the-century metalcore bands like Killswitch Engage and Bleeding Through. When we interviewed them back in 2020, Boster was particularly stoked about the "ass-beater choruses" on the new record they'd just finished up recording, and "Until Mourning Comes" must've been one of the songs she was thinking of.

After kicking off with a bone-crushing breakdown, the track puts a modern spin on NWOAHM by splitting the difference between ripping screamed verses and beautifully sung — and genuinely catchy — clean choruses.

Its accompanying video features the band playing in the woods in between shots of a tattooed woman running around the bramble looking distressed. It's a classic metalcore video concept, but Dying Wish make it fresh. Watch and listen above via YouTube.

Fragments of a Bitter Memory is due out October 1st via SharpTone Records. We have an exclusive vinyl variant on "clear with black smash" wax that's limited to just 250 copies. Grab yours now before they're gone.
