On November 10th, Evanescence will release a new album, Synthesis, the follow-up to 2011's self-titled LP. The record features reinterpretations of the band's signature songs recorded with a full orchestra and additional electronic effects, including a fresh take on their 2003 smash "Bring Me to Life," which the group released last month. It also features two new songs, "Imperfection" and "Hi-Lo." Amy Lee and Co. have unveiled the former track, an emotionally-charged epic that confronts mental illness and suicide head on. "For me, this is the most important song on the album," Lee says of "Imperfection," adding: "I struggled with the lyrics because there's a lot to live up to and I wasn't sure what to say." She continues, "When it started pouring out of me, it turned out to be speaking to all the people we've been losing because of suicide and depression. I was singing from the perspective of the person left behind — it's a plea to fight for your life, to stay, and that we all need each other as humans."
Evanescence — whose current lineup comprises Lee, bassist Tim McCord, drummer Will hunt, lead guitarist/vocalist Troy McLawhorn and guitarist Jen Majura — developed Synthesis alongside orchestral arranger and composer David Campbell. The album also features a guest appearance from renowned violinist Lindsey Stirling, on the aforementioned "Hi-Lo."
"There are so many layers in our music, underneath the huge drums and guitars," Lee says. "I've always wanted to shine a light on some of the gorgeous David Campbell arrangements and programming elements in our songs, and that idea snowballed into completely re-doing them with full orchestras, elaborate programming, and experimentation." Evanescence's upcoming tour will see them joined by a full orchestra, as well — a first for the band.
