Hear Evanescence's Operatic Cover of Fleetwood Mac's "The Chain"

Amy Lee and Co.'s new single featured in Xbox game 'Gears of War 5'

Evanescence fans were thrilled back in September when they learned that Amy Lee and Co. had put their operatic, alt-metal spin on Fleetwood Mac's 1977 classic-rock monster "The Chain" for the latest chapter of the smash Xbox franchise, Gears of War 5. A snippet of the cover appeared in an action-packed trailer for the game. Today, November 22nd, the band have finally dropped the full single via all the major digital music platforms (you can stream it above on YouTube). The Fleetwood Mac original has been covered in the past by everyone from Harry Styles and Brandi Carlile to Three Days Grace and Toothgrinder.

"This cover was so fun to make," Lee commented via Evanescence's Twitter. "We love Fleetwood Mac and wanted to paint a dark and epic picture with our take on The Chain. We're beyond excited to share this with you and I'm really looking forward to playing it live."

Lee had previously talked about her connection to the song as it related to Gears of War. "I was drawn to the story of Kait overcoming fear and standing up to fight," she tweeted. "Her story of breaking out with her own voice is most definitely one I relate to!" To celebrate the single's wide release, the singer hosted an AMA session on Reddit to talk to fans about the new song, 2020 touring plans, the band's current status ("in the studio now working on our next original album") and plenty of other topics. Gears of War 5 is out now with more information available on the game's official website
