Missouri doom veterans celebrating 10th anniversary with covers album 'Decade of Depression'

St. Louis, Missouri, doom merchants Fister have been cranking out miserable, misanthropic sludge metal since 2009, which means that this year marks their 10-year anniversary. Comprised of guitarist-vocalist Marcus Newstead, bassist-vocalist Kenny Snarzyk and drummer Kirk Gatterer, the trio are celebrating the milestone with a new covers album, titled Decade of Depression in reference, of course, to Slayer's iconic live record Decade of Aggression. It's fitting then that the 10-track LP sees Fister taking on a song by the thrash OGs — specifically, South of Heaven standout "Mandatory Suicide," which they turned into the thick, swampy sludge-metal stomper premiering here.

"We could've picked any song on South of Heaven and it would've been awesome," the band enthuses. "We talked about either doing this track or 'Spill the Blood.' This song just seemed to fit better."

Decade of Depression also features covers of Metallica, Danzig, Darkthrone and more. You can pre-order your copy now via Listenable Records, and check out Fister's upcoming live dates below.
