Hear Garbage's Shirley Manson Go Grindcore on New HIRS Song

Alt-rock icon guests on Philly collective's upcoming 'We're Still Here' LP

Queer grindcore collective HIRS have announced a new album, We're Still Here, the follow-up to last year's compilation The Third 100 Songs (which actually featured 100 songs). The Philadelphian outfit's upcoming effort — due out March 24th via Get Better — boasts a long list of guest stars, including members of My Chemical Romance, Converge, Thursday, the Locust, Thou, Soul Glo, the Body and Full of Hell. But the biggest and most surprising name might be Shirley Manson, a.k.a. the singer of gothy Nineties alt-rock hit-makers Garbage.

Manson — who contributed spoken word to HIRS' 2018 debut, Friends. Lovers. Favorites. — appears on the new album's title track, adding haunting sung vocals over a doomy breakdown that offer a slight respite from the cut's otherwise ferocious grind assault. The song arrived today (November 2nd) with not one but two music videos — watch above and below.

"We'll never quit this collective, a version of therapy for ourselves and anyone who feels in need to scream their lungs out for one more day of living," the band commented of We're Still Here in a joint statement. "We don't think we can destroy every single negative structure, but we can dismantle them within ourselves. And if we have the chance to destroy it, let's fucking go. But we aren't going to be given any power from anyone else and have to take it for ourselves."
