Hear At the Gates' Proggy Epic "The Fall Into Time"

Seven-minute banger from melodeath vets' upcoming LP 'The Nightmare of Being'

Revolver has teamed with At the Gates for an exclusive Ultra Clear vinyl variant of their new album The Nightmare of Being. Quantities are extremely limited — order your copy now before they're gone!

The previous singles we heard from At the Gates' new album differed slightly from the type of melodic death metal that they pioneered, but "The Fall into Time" is a significant departure. The Gothenburg band toted that The Nightmare of Being would be a "progressive" take on their signature sound, and this nearly seven-minute epic makes good on that promise.

Beginning with a swell of foreboding orchestral soundscapes and littered with proggy digressions, "The Fall Into Time" sounds more like Between the Buried in Me or Opeth than the straightforward and catchy death metal sound that At the Gates are primarily associated with. It rips, just in a different, more technical way. Take a listen above via YouTube.

"'The Fall into Time' is one of the centerpieces of the album," frontman Lindberg Redant said in a statement. "It is big, demanding and epic. We have always found it intriguing to compose songs like these, think 'Neverwhere', 'Primal Breath', 'The Night Eternal' and 'Daggers of Black Haze'. It is heavy, mean and dark, as well as almost cinematic in its thematic approach."

He continued, "I have always said that the At the Gates listener wants to be challenged and that you hopefully all are as curious as we are when it comes to exploring new musical territory. This song is one of those moments. Enjoy!"

The Nightmare of Being is due out July 2nd via Century Media Records. We have an exclusive "Ultra Clear" vinyl variant available in our shop that's limited to just 300 copies. Grab yours now before they're gone!
