Hear Gojira's First New Song Since 2016: "Another World"

Standalone single arrives with animated video evoking 'Planet of the Apes'

Gojira had big plans for 2020: a major tour in direct support of the Deftones, and possibly a new album, the follow-up to 2016's critically acclaimed opus Magma. A global pandemic had other ideas, however, and like everyone else on this planet, the band — fronted by singer-guitarist-producer Joe Duplantier — found themselves in what seems like another world entirely. But Gojira are not to be silenced, and today (August 4th), the French-bred progressive metal outfit dropped an epic standalone single, fittingly titled "Another World." Produced by Duplantier and mixed by Andy Wallace, the new cut is available now on all streaming platforms and arrives accompanied by a sci-fi-themed animated music video directed by Maxime Tiberhgien and Sylvain Favre. Watch and listen above.

"It is with great excitement that we're presenting our new track 'Another World,'" Duplantier commented. "Ferdinand Magellan once said, 'It is with an iron will that we'll embark on the most daring of all endeavors, to meet the shadowy future without fear and conquer the unknown.' Is humanity doomed, or will we survive nature's wrath? Take a glimpse into our shadowy future by watching our take on 1968's Planet of the Apes ... 'Another World'!"

"We mock and slaughter all the purest kinds," he sings on the cut. "Blinded by the noise and maze, this flash in our eyes/Hope for the world but prepare for the worst/I'd rather find a way on my own/Another world, another place to be/Other world, a new place for me/Don't believe your lies, don't believe your tales/I'm longing for the day I will find ..."
