For the past decade, Fucked Up have been subverting what it means to be a hardcore band, and what the limits to the genre — or lack thereof — can allow. In the latest chapter to that saga, they've released a new single, "Normal People," and its accompanying music video, off their upcoming record Dose Your Dreams out October 5th. The clip follows a loose narrative of several characters going through their daily routines, all amped up for weird effect. Musically, some strands of hardcore-punk DNA weave through the song, especially when vocalist Damian Abraham unleashes a fierce line or two, but for the most part, the band chills out on the track, hooking together elements of post-punk and straight-up rock & roll, creating an optimistic sound that clashes with the darker outlook of the lyrics. Check it out above.
